There’s more to it than the present perfect…

Language Learning in the 21st Century

Language learning in the old days often consisted of little more than rote learning of grammar and vocabulary … Things have changed, and following the revolutionary concept of ‘language as communication’, methodology of today has little in common with that of the past. This session will look at the linguistic needs and aspirations of learners today, and look at how we can cater for those in theELTclassroom. The session will showcase material from the Pearson Longman Course ‘Language Leader.’

Session Two: 19.00 – 20.30, March 9th, 2010 followed by Apéro.

Let’s Get Things Done!

English for Work, Socialising and Travel

The world is getting smaller - both virtually as well as in terms of the amount of travel we do. This in turn means more international communication. And yet how easy is it to get it wrong when we communicate with other cultural groups? This session will look at effective communication in the contexts of work, socialising and travel. Among other areas, we will highlight the importance of functional language to get things done – how to teach it and how to get it right, and how to have fun doing so at the same time! The session will be illustrated with material from the brand new Pearson Longman course ‘Lifestyle’.
